Kosciuszko Community Center Rehabilitation Project

Milwaukee County Parks is planning a major rehabilitation of the Kosciuszko Community Center, located at 2201 S. 7th Street. The two-story, 58,000-square-foot building was constructed in 1981 and currently provides space for a fitness center and weight room, boxing gym, gymnasium, and a variety of community programs operated by community partners.

The building has significant deferred maintenance needs, and many of its interior spaces were not designed to easily adapt to changing community needs. The surrounding park facilities, including the playground and flexible field west of the center, have also experienced flooding and drainage issues.

Planning for the rehabilitation began with a community and facility needs study completed in 2022. The current project will advance that work into the design phase and establish a long-term, phased approach for improving the community center and surrounding facilities.

What is being planned?

The current phase of the project includes design work for improvements throughout the Community Center and surrounding site, including:

  • Renovations and improvements to interior spaces

  • Improvements to the fitness and weight room areas

  • Improvements to the boxing gym

  • HVAC, lighting, and fire protection upgrades

  • New or reconfigured interior walls to improve flexibility and functionality

  • Improvements to the building's exterior and entrance

  • Replacement or improvements to the playground

  • Improvements to the courts on the north end of the park

  • Site improvements to address drainage and flooding concerns

  • Design of additions to the northwest and northeast portions of the building

What's next?

Design work will continue through the initial phase, with additional phases of design and construction anticipated in the following years. Because of the size and complexity of the project, improvements will be completed in phases as funding becomes available.

Milwaukee County Parks will continue to work through the planning and design process while considering the needs of residents, community partners, and the people who use the Kosciuszko Community Center and surrounding park facilities.
