The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee has helped local kids and teens since 1887 and has occupied space within Sherman Park since 1992. In 2017 the 57,000-square-foot Mary Ryan Boys & Girls Club building was completely renovated to better serve kids from 5 to 18 years old.

Project Overview

In 2023, Milwaukee County Parks and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee were fortunate to receive an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant to make strategic investments in Sherman Park. Since receiving the grant, the Boys and Girls Club has been hard at work raising other funds to expand the investment needed in the park. Today, more than $2 million has been raised and the first phase of construction is set to begin in Spring 2024. This first phase of investment will include new pathways and lighting throughout the park, a new biking loop, a new splash pad (on site of the current under-utilized wading pool), moving and rebuilding a waste disposal area, and expanded staff parking. The second phase will likely commence in Spring 2025. It could include a new concessions area, a new outdoor picnic/amphitheater space, improved drainage (trees and landscaping), new signage, and new community room space (re-purposed from current garages at Mary Ryan Club).
