ACECWI selects Underwood Creek as an Engineering Excellence State FinalistThe segment of Underwood Creek Parkway between Bluemound Road and 119th Street was in poor condition (rated 26/100). The roadway had been annually patched for approximately 10 years, and it deteriorated further with each freeze-thaw cycle. The pavement cracked and heaved in several locations, and was a hazard for both vehicles and bicycles that used this stretch of road, which is also a mapped section of the Oak Leaf Trail's Root River Line. Some areas of the parkway had broken curb, while others had no curb at all due to deterioration.
The completed project includes the replacement of the 0.41 mile stretch of parkway with 4" of asphalt pavement. The project used a combination of new concrete curb and gutter along with new "at-grade" curbing to improve storm water drainage from the roadway. Lighting in this stretch has also been upgraded in accordance with Parks standards, including new LED fixtures. Other utilities were replaced under the new pavement as needed.
Latest Lighting Update: Final lighting installation is pending receipt of new light fixtures; fixtures delivery date is unknown due to current economic conditions.
