Copernicus Park Playground

The current playground at Copernicus Park was installed in 2000. Being one of the older playgrounds in the Milwaukee County Park system, it is in need of updating. Funding was approved in the Parks 2026 capital budget to include removal of the current play structures and the design and installation of a new playground beginning in 2026.

The majority of the current play surface is sand. The new playground will feature a combination of engineered wood fiber (EWF) and poured-in-place (PIP) rubber safety surfacing. New play structures are anticipated to include swings and play structures, and stand-alone play components for both 2-5 year old and 5-12 year old age groups of children. Many features of the new playground will be ADA accessible, and new benches, bike racks, and asphalt paving will also be included.

Public Engagement

Public engagement to gather input on preferences in play component types is expected to begin early in 2026.

Check back periodically for project updates.
