Lyons Park Playground was installed in 1997 and is due for a replacement. Funding for the playground was appropriated in the 2023 adopted capital budget. In-person community engagement took place in the summer of 2023. The new playground system would include ADA-accessible features and the playground surfacing would be upgraded to a mixture of "poured-in-place" surfacing (soft, rubberized surface) and engineered wood fiber (wood chips). This is a safer and cleaner option compared to the existing surface. The approved budget would include the design, removal of existing playground equipment as well as the concrete curb, installation of a new playground, and corresponding site improvements, such as new pathways, benches, and bike racks.
The new playground will include a unique play structure for 2-5-year-old kids, a play structure for 5-12-year-old kids, swings, and a series of play panels laid out to form a maze for 2-5-year-old kids.
Potential Project Start and End dates:
Installation planned for 9/9-9/23. With the goal to finish up the week of 9/30.
Playground Design Options Please help decide which playground design gets installed. Review the two options and then take the survey at the bottom of the page. The survey will remain open until Thursday, March 21st. Option A

Over the summer of 2023, Parks engagement staff asked neighbors of Lyons Park what kind of slide and fun feature they would like to see in their new playground. 63% of the 70 respondents were between the ages of 0 and 12. Respondents had a preference for the Double Swoosh Slide and the Helix Net Climber. The proposed designs incorporate those features.
This new survey is asking for your preference between two designs and should take less than 5 minutes to complete. Click on the playground image to make it larger.
Thank you for taking the time to contribute your voice to this project.
