Milwaukee County is seeking your input via the survey at the bottom of this page to help shape decisions for how its Fund for the Arts supports the Milwaukee County arts community in the future. Your input is important and will help inform the County’s Advisory Committee (CAMPAC) and the County Board of Supervisors on future grant recommendations. Below is some background.

Fund for the Arts

Milwaukee County provides funding to non-profit organizations that provide cultural, musical, and artistic programming through its Fund for the Arts. The Fund for the Arts is advised by a committee known as the Cultural, Artistic & Musical Programming Advisory Council (CAMPAC), who make recommendations to the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors for annual grant awards. The Challenge

Funding for the arts has been in decline for several decades. The Fund for the Arts is provided annually through the Milwaukee County budget; the total amount in 2026 is $307,825. As seen in the chart below, this amount of funding has remained generally flat for years and experienced a decline of $100,000 in 2025 due to other very worthy competing priorities at Milwaukee County, such as homeless services, maintaining transit, and investing in parks. There is an increasing number of arts-based organizations that are struggling with funding, and other potential sources of revenue, such as philanthropy, are becoming less reliable. Milwaukee County seeks to support the arts ecosystem in the region, but with declining funds and more organizations seeking support, a different approach to providing funding to arts organizations may be needed.

Beginning in 2024, Milwaukee County distributed grants in equal amounts to all organizations that applied and met certain eligibility qualifications. In 2025, there were 48 qualified organizations that applied for funding, which resulted in a grant of $6,413 provided to each organization.
