Popuch Park Playground

Popuch Park Playground is one of the oldest playgrounds in the Milwaukee County Parks system, having been installed in 1999. Based on age and condition, this playground is a high priority for playground replacement. Funding for the playground was appropriated in the 2024 adopted capital budget.

The new playground system will include ADA-accessible features and play structures for both 2-5 and 5–12-year-old children. The playground surfacing will be upgraded from sand to a mixture of poured-in-place (PIP) rubber (soft, rubberized surface) or a combination of PIP rubber and engineered wood fiber (wood chips). These are safer and cleaner options compared to the existing surface. Additionally, the dilapidated benches along the playground’s perimeter will be replaced. The approved budget includes the design, removal of existing playground equipment, and installation of a new playground. The expected construction is Fall of 2025.

Community Engagement

In Spring of 2024 a survey was distributed to neighbors to help decide the style of slides and fun features to be included in this playground. 38 responses were collected. Below are the renderings for the playground based on those responses.
