Update: The playground is installed and ready for use!
Tippecanoe Park Playground was installed in 1997 and a Resolution was approved in 2022 for its replacement; the replacement started being installed on Wednesday, September 27th. Turf restoration may occur in Spring 2024. The new playground system will include ADA-accessible features and the playground surfacing will be upgraded to a mixture of "poured-in-place" surfacing (soft, rubberized surface) and engineered wood fiber (wood chips). This is a safer and cleaner option compared to the existing surface. The approved budget includes the design, removal of existing playground equipment as well as the concrete curb, installation of a new playground, and corresponding site improvements, such as new pathways, benches, and bike racks.
The new playground will include a unique play structure for 2-5-year-old kids, a play structure for 5-12-year-old kids, swings, and a series of play panels laid out to form a maze for 2-5-year-old kids.
MEDIA ALERT: Tippecanoe Park Playground Ribbon Cutting
WHEN: Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 4:30 pm WHERE: Tippecanoe Park, 1411 E. Warnimont Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207 WHAT: The Milwaukee County Parks and Supervisor Clancy invite you to the ribbon cutting for Tippecanoe Park's new playground.
Community Engagement
In the Summer of 2023, Parks Engagement staff surveyed parkgoers, neighbors, and members of the Friends of Tippecanoe Park. Based on those results, the playground consultant prepared two designs for the Tippecanoe Park playground. The preferred playground elements were incorporated into the two designs. A second playground survey was distributed via this page for neighbors to choose between the two renderings. Based on the survey results the following playground renderings were selected.

Over the Summer and Fall of 2022, Parks engagement staff asked neighbors of Tippecanoe Park what kind of slide and fun feature they would like to see in their new playground. 68% of the 35 respondents were between the ages of 0 and 12. Respondents had a preference for the Double Swoosh and Rushwinder Slides and the Helix Net Climber and Tight Rope Bridge fun features. The proposed designs incorporate those features.
This new survey is asking for your preference between two designs and should take less than 5 minutes to complete. Click on the playground image to make it larger.
